Location: Barangaroo, Australia
Builder: Lendlease
Client/Owner/Tenant: Crown Resorts
The Crown Sydney Hotel and Resort project is the tallest building in Sydney. Its unique floor plate design, the raked columns used throughout, and slenderness ratio of the structure contributed to the requirement for a tuned mass damper (TMD) to be installed.
The 200 tonne machine is mounted on level 70 and is used to stabilise the structure against violent motion caused by harmonic vibration. The TMD used in this structure moves in opposition to the resonance frequency oscillations of the structure by means of pendulums.
